   The Eye
The ability to see is dependent on the actions of several components in and around the eye.

When looking at an object, light rays are reflected from the object to the cornea. The lights rays are refracted and focused by the cornea and the lens. The lens allows the light rays to focus sharply on the retina, and results as an upside-down image. The retina then converts the light rays into electrical impulses which are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain. The brain translates the image and the result is an image in the upright position.

The human eye is similar to a camera. A camera needs a lens to focus an image and film to produce an image. In that way, the eye needs a lens (cornea, lens) to refract and focus light and a film (retina) on which to focus the light rays. If any one or more of these components is not functions properly, the result is a poor image. The retina, representing the film in a camera, captures the image and sends the picture to the brain to be developed. The macula is the highly sensitive central area of our retina that is responsible for our central focusing vision. It is the most used part of the retina

MYOPIA:  Nearsightedness
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness is when the light entering the eye focuses in front of the retina rather than on the retina. Nearsighted people typically see well up close but poorly at a distance. This is caused by the eye being longer than a normal eye.

HYPEROPIA:  Farsightedness
Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, is when the light entering the eye focuses behind the retina rather than on the retina. Farsighted people typically have difficulty seeing up close and at a distance. This is caused by the eye being shorter than a normal eye.

ASTIGMATISM:
Astigmatism is when the front surface of the eye called the cornea is oval like a football rather than spherical like basketball. The cornea has 2 points of focus, a steeper point and a flatter point that causes light to focus at one or more points onto the retina, resulting in blurry vision for distance and near.

ARMED FORCES TESTIMONIALS

For several years I have considered getting LASIK eye surgery to correct my nearsightedness.  I have worn glasses and/or contacts lenses for 48 years.  In September, Dr. Gupta advertised a special for Military personnel--two eyes for the price of one. Understanding the significant savings this would be, I contacted his office for an evaluation.

From the start, I was very pleased with the professionalism, friendliness, and thoroughness of the doctor and his staff.  After a complete evaluation, I was told I would be a candidate for the LASIK surgery.  Prior to the date of the surgery, my eyes were examined a couple more times and I was given a detailed briefing of the procedures as well as the risks of the surgery. With full confidence in the doctor and his staff, I elected to have the surgery done.

On November 1, 2007, I underwent LASIK surgery.  During the preparations leading up to the surgery and during the surgery itself, I was treated with the utmost personal care.  Naturally anyone would be somewhat anxious about having anything done to their eyes.  However, the pleasant attitude , constant assurance, and continued encouragement during the procedure by Dr. Gupta and his staff were instrumental in alleviating any anxiety I might have had.  The surgery went well and I am very satisfied with the results.

Dr. Gupta's special pricing program for military personnel is very beneficial.  Several members of the 179th Airlift Wing who may not have been able to afford the regular price have been able to have their vision corrected under this program.  As members of the military, many of us deploy to locations with severe environmental conditions (blowing sand, dust, snow).  We are also required to wear protective masks in chemical threat areas.  We cannot wear contact lenses in these situations and glasses tend to fog up, get dirty, or break at critical times.  he reduced priced program offered by Dr. Gupta has allowed many military members to get their vision corrected and given them one less thing to worry about when deployed to hostile areas of the world.

On behalf of myself and my fellow service members, I would like to extend our extreme gratitude to Dr. Gupta and his staff.  They are the kind of people that make volunteering to serve our country a satisfying and rewarding experience.  It is my hope Dr. Gupta will receive the resources necessary to enable him to continue this special pricing program for the members of the military.

I recently had my vision correction at the Sugarbush Eye & Laser Centre with their Intralase procedure.  The results were amazing and I can now see 20/20 or better in both eyes.  The procedure went very smoothly and Dr. Gupta and the staff were amazing.  They were knowledgable, extremely informative, and they were always willing to answer any questions I had.  I would highly recommend the Intralase procedure to anyone who is eligible for it.  I would definelty recommend the Sugarbush Eye & Laser Centre to anyone who was interested in laser eye corrective surgery.

I have worn corrective lenses what seems like my entire life. It was a constant annoyance to have to wear glasses or care for my contacts; especially with an active lifestyle and serving in the Army. I received the Intralase procedure about a month ago by Dr. Gupta and his helpful staff. I am confident that it is the best money I have ever spent. I will be deploying in support of Operation Iraqui Freedom in January for the second time. This time I will be able to do my job without my vision being impeded by lenses fogging or getting bumped off of my face. In short, I know that I will be able to see clearly when it counts the most. I feel that because of the LASIK vision correction I had done at the Sugarbush Eye & Laser Centre, my abilities as a leader, as well as my quality of life has been permanently improved. I recommend the procedure to my fellow soldiers and tell them that Sugarbush Eye & Laser Centre is the place to do it!
